CHARACTER
Name: Kida Masaomi
Age: 16
Canon: Durarara
History: DRRR Wiki
Personality: Masaomi is generally a cheeful, fun guy. He hardly takes anything seriously. Unless it's girls. Picking up girls is his number one priority, and it should be everyone else's number one priority as well. He's often seen trying to turn Mikado's words and actions into flirting, or trying to get him to pick up girls with him. And the type doesn't matter to Masaomi; older, younger, housewife, already dating someone, not interested (and all of them are not interested).
He also has a tendency to make bad jokes, and not even in the way of puns or old man gags. No, Masaomi's jokes make no sense, at all, and are only funny to Masaomi. It was how Mikado was able to figure out that Masaomi was actually himself, when he gave Mikado three options as to who his identity might be, all three options being himself.
He always seems to be in a good mood. If the surrounding atmosphere turns sour, he'll try to turn it around by making one of those bad jokes or dragging the party off somewhere fun. It has a tendency to get on people's nerves, but Masaomi acts oblivious to this fact. Life should be enjoyed, right? Why don't we go pick up some chicks?
In reality, however, all of this is Masaomi projecting, hiding his real self. He started a gang to try and find a place to fit in, and he felt that he found it, but that place was shaky. He constantly questions himself and his actions, is unsure of the decisions he makes. It's part of the reason he came to rely on Izaya during the Blue Squares incident.
He also has a hidden temper, but it really only comes out when his friends are threatened. When Mikado had moved to Ikebukuro, he had already quit the Yellow Scarves, out of guilt for what happened to his girlfriend. He couldn't face what he felt had been his fault because he couldn't save her. He swore he was done with that life, but once one of his classmates was attacked by the mysterious slasher, he went back. His resolve had grown a bit, and he would no longer stand for people hurting those close to him. He's really quite protective.
Masaomi doesn't like to face reality. He never went to visit his girlfriend after she ended up in the hospital when he froze up trying to save her. Instead he quit the gang, and buried himself in a life of flirting cheerfulness. It's easier to run away. He knows deep down inside though, that the past will catch up to him, and by the end of the series, he's come to terms with that, and is able to face it.
IN GAME
Brief In-Game History: Masaomi's early childhood was in Saitama, where he first met his best friend forever and ever, Ryuugamine Mikado. They went to school together, hung out, played pretend, and were boys. It was the same day in and day out. Things lasted this way until his last year of elementary school, when his parents announced they were moving to the city. The Kidas packed up and moved to Ikebukuro, leaving behind their smalltown life.
Ikebukuro was an entirely different place to Masaomi. Louder, crowded, busy. At first it was difficult to adjust. He had no friends here, and no way to talk to his old friends back home. One day, however, Mikado got a computer, and they began to chat online. It felt as if nothing had changed since he'd left, and Masaomi was relieved. He became livelier in school, easily making new friends and flirting with all the girls. It was easy to be this person.
As middle school progressed and Masaomi's friends grew, they decided to call themselves a gang, which Masaomi would lead. Nothing serious. Just harmless pranks, and a sense of belonging. And that's what it really was, a place to belong to. They wore yellow scarves and bandanas to identify themselves, to know who they belonged with. Every day was fun and games and laughs. And flirting, there was always flirting.
A rival gang sprung up, calling themselves the Blue Squares, to challenge the Yellow Scarves. At first, Masaomi didn't take them seriously; he didn't take much seriously during that time. However, the Blue Squares turned out to be a different form of gang than their rivals. They resorted to violence and drugs, and were considerably more dangerous. It was around this time that Masaomi was introduced to Mikajima Saki and Orihara Izaya. He hit it off with Saki immediately (she was a girl, after all), though Izaya he was somewhat wary of. And Saki was a girl who didn't spurn his advances. He would come to her when there was an incident that went down with the Blue Squares, and she always referred him to Izaya for advice. And Izaya always gave sound advice. He started turning things around for the Yellow Scarves, they could actally put up some resistance now. Masaomi began to depend on Izaya, possibly his biggest mistake.
He and Saki began dating soon enough. She was fun, refreshing, and never minded his flirtatious ways. Then one night he got a call from the leader of the Blue Squares. They had kidnapped Saki to lure him out for a challenge. He could hear them breaking her leg in the background. Immediately, he called Izaya. Izaya would know what to do. But Izaya never answered. Not any of the several times he called him. Over and over and over again, he called and got no answer.
So Masaomi went himself. He ran all the way there to rescue his girlfriend, only to freeze up just outside. He knew she'd only be hurt more, but he couldn't move. Lucky for him, there were some members of the Blue Squares who weren't happy with the way things were going. They managed to save Saki and take out the leader.
Soon after, the Blue Squares disbanded and Saki was hospitalized. Masaomi couldn't face her. He hadn't rescued her; he couldn't face her. Even after Kadota lectured him on not running away, he couldn't do it. That was when the foreign exchange program was brought to his attention from someone online in a chat. There was a chance for students to go to Italy and study abroad. While his Italian wasn't great, it was a chance to get away. A chance to run away from his mistakes.
He visited Saki before he left to tell her. He was moving to Vizzini and didn't give her a chance to argue. The next couple months were spent immersing himself in the Italian language, which he picked up on rather quickly, and used as a new flirting method.
He's been in Vizzini nearly a year now. It's a new place, where he can reinvent himself. And by 'reinvent,' I really mean 'reset.' He's still bright, sunny, and cheerful, flirting with all the Italian girls. His only connection to home is the almost nightly chats he has with Mikado, whom he's never stopped talking to. Of course he didn't tell Mikado about any of what had happened in Ikebukuro, or why he moved. But hey, Mikado should join him! Vizzini is great!
He tries to steer clear of anything mafia related. He's aware of their influence in town and would rather avoid getting tangled up in anything again.
((note: If anyone ever applies for Saki and doesn't want to adhere to this history, I'm more than willing to shift things around, or change Saki to some random girl.))
(Masaomi probably won't be getting a hand on one of these guns. He generally dislikes them and would rather stay out of anything that would require them. But if he ever gets kidnapped by the Mendolia or anything...)
Type of Bullet(s) Requested: Scortesia
Abilities gained from bullets: The ability to take the damage dealt to him, and deal it back doubled in concussive force. However, it doesn't actually get rid of the damage done to him, so he still suffers from whatever he takes.

First Person:
Ahhhh~ Another refreshing day in Italy! As you all can see, I've returned from the holiday vacation, a blooming flower ready to blossom. [Masaomi pauses for dramatic effect and to let the obviously uproarious laughter die down, unaware that it's probably crickets chirping instead.]
I'll be returning to classes on Monday, so ladies, you'll no longer be without me. I'll be sure to make time for each and every one you~ [He winks at the camera, then blows a kiss to his obviously adoring fans.]
Third Person: His first days in Italy weren't particularly exciting. Certainly it was a new place, and his Italian was only so-so, so there were some communication misunderstandings, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Though Italian women were certainly more open then Japanese women were. There was a slightly older woman who was just as forward as he was, if not more so, touching his chest and shoulders. It was startling enough that he'd had to leave quickly. Later, it had made him laugh, though. How silly to expect things to be the same. Of course the girls here were different as well.
It was easy enough to adjust, and soon he found himself laughing with new friends, and flirting with new girls. But you could never escape your past, wasn't that what Izaya had told him? As usual, the bastard was right. He might have left Ikebukuro, but Vizzini was hardly different.
During his second month, he accidentally witnessed a shooting go down.
He was walking home from school and had just told a couple of his classmates goodbye at the last street crossing. He heard some noises in a nearby alley. He knew he should just ignore it, ignore it and keep walking, but he'd already stopped. Against his better judgment, he'd moved so his back was against the wall and peered around the corner. There was a man in a fedora and trench coat with a gun pointed at some poor store owner who had fallen on his ass, shaking.
"You know Mr. De Luca is tired of waiting for his money. Do you have it?"
"I-I j-j-just n-need a little m-more ti-time!"
"You've already had a generous extension, Signor. I believe your time is up."
"N-NO! A DAY! Gi-Gimme a day!"
The man holding the gun shot him in the shoulder then, without hesitation. "You have one day."
Masaomi yelled. Thankfully, it was nearly drowned out by the other man's yelling in pain, but the first man with the gun still seemed to hear it. His head whipped up and Masaomi was back around the corner so fast, and booking it down the pavement. This was worse than Ikebukuro; at least there, most people didn't have guns.
Ducking into a cafe, he seated himself at a table and slouched down, glancing out the window. After a few minutes of waiting, it didn't seem like the man had followed. He let out a sigh of relief and instantly put on a charming smile as the waitress approached.
"Hello there, bella donna~" His heart was still racing, but it looked like he was going to survive. And here was a pretty woman to serve him food.
